The Public Institution Kamenjak has been granted support for the project "Renovation and organisation of the main visitor traffic infrastructure of Lower Kamenjak" submitted to the public call for proposals regarding immediate co-funding of project documentation for the renovation of the existing visitor and hiking infrastructure in protected areas and ecological network areas, published by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. The total costs of implementing the project amount to HRK 133,000 (excluding VAT), of which HRK 106,400 (excluding VAT) of grants have been provided through the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. The goal of the project is the organisation and renovation of the visitor traffic infrastructure in the protected area of Lower Kamenjak. This infrastructure is the main traffic link in Lower Kamenjak, and is used by visitors (pedestrians, cyclists and traffic vehicles) for tours and active holidays in the protected area. Currently, the route is an unsurfaced, dusty, unkempt road, in certain sections full of dips and potholes that slow down the flow of vehicles and pose a safety threat to vehicles and cyclists, while the dust also threatens the protected flora and fauna. The goal of the project is the preparation of project documentation for the renovation and organisation of the visitor traffic infrastructure detailed above. In order to achieve that goal, activities will be carried out to create the conceptual solution and to implement the geodetic part of the project, the required authorisation by public legal bodies will be obtained, and the main project with a bill of quantities will be prepared. The traffic infrastructure would be renovated and organised by installing an ecological road surface. This would eliminate dust pollution and damage to the road, improve its flow and functionality, encourage more cyclists and pedestrians, and create the prerequisites for the introduction of a tourist train. In addition, educational panels about the protected area will be placed in the parking areas, which will better the education of visitors. The project will improve the protection of flora and fauna, the visitor access and safety, management and supervision of visitors and the safety and resilience of infrastructure. It will encourage more visits by cyclists and pedestrians, and reduce the pressure from vehicles, which will in turn contribute to achieving climate goals, reducing CO2
pollution and reducing the environmental footprint of the infrastructure. The beneficiary of the project is the Kamenjak Public Institution.
