The Kamenjak Public Institution's project “ORKA – Sustainable development of the significant landscape of Lower Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago” (project reference: KK. 06.1.2.02.0043), under the “Competitiveness and Cohesion” operational programme 2014–2020, is co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund thanks to the successful proposal for the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds’ “Promoting the sustainable use of natural heritage in national parks and nature parks” call for proposals.
The total value of the project is set at a maximum of HRK 10,016,857.23. The total eligible costs of the project amount to HRK 6,273,479.94, of which HRK 4,391,435.95 (69.99% of the total eligible costs) were allocated to the project under the European Regional Development Fund. The remaining amount of eligible costs is co-financed by the resources of the Fund for Co-Financing the Implementation of EU Projects at Regional and Local Levels in the amount of HRK 1,129,226.39, while funds in the amount of HRK 752,817.60 are co-financed with own resources of the applicant and project partners.
On 27 July 2018, the “Kamenjak” Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Values in the Medulin Municipality Area, together with its partners, the Medulin Municipality and Istria County, signed a grant agreement for the implementation of activities under the project “ORKA – Sustainable development of the significant landscape of Lower Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago (KK.06.1.2.02.0043)” with the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds (MRDEUF) of the Republic of Croatia and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA).
The grant agreement was signed on 27 July 2018, together with the partners, the Medulin Municipality and Istria County, and the implementation period of the project is from 1 March 2015 to 1 January 2020.
The ORKA project includes a series of activities to facilitate the Institution’s management and visitor tracking, with the aim of maintaining and promoting the protection of natural values of the significant landscape of Lower Kamenjak and the Medulin Archipelago.
The overall objective of the project is to improve the management of the Kamenjak Public Institution based on the principles of sustainable use of natural heritage with the aim of investing in visitor infrastructure, enriching the attraction base with the presentation of the natural heritage and increasing the level of environmental protection by introducing a better waste management system.
The specific objectives of the project include:
- preparation of project-technical documentation to improve visitor management;
- development of visitor infrastructure to enrich the attraction base of the area while improving the quality of the visitor’s stay in the area;
- increasing the number of visitors in places where the infrastructure and attraction base will be improved.
The ORKA project includes the following activities (elements):
- establishment of info-points at entry points and ensuring the mobility of educational groups by procuring a vehicle adapted for persons with disabilities;
- development of new educational contents and improvement of the existing “Putevima dinosaura” (“Following the dinosaur tracks”) educational path;
- increasing the appeal of the Kamenjak Public Institution’s attractions and improving the visitor tracking system;
- construction of adequate municipal infrastructure to enable better nature protection;
- promotion and visibility; and
- project management and administration.
The project will also retroactively co-finance some activities that were completed before the signing of the agreement, and for which, according to the instructions to the applicants, it was acceptable to request retroactive co-financing under this project.
