Medulin Riviera Fishermen Tales

In December 2021, the implementation of the Medulin Riviera Fishermen Tales project began. The project was approved on the basis of a FLAG call for proposals for awarding support to projects under Measure 1.1.1 “Development and improvement of facilities and other public spaces and contents related to fishing heritage” within the framework of the implementation of the Local Fisheries Development Strategy of the Istrian Batana FLAG for the period 2014-2020. The total value of the project is HRK 706,827.40, of which HRK 694,564.90 has been secured through co-financing. The implementation of the project has been co-financed through European Union funds as part of the Operational Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. In the area of the Istrian Batana FLAG there is a long tradition of fishing, along with its associated fishing heritage, which has been to a certain extent neglected and marginalised due to modern economic and social conditions. In order to encourage a change in this trend, the Medulin Tourist Board, together with its partners the Kamenjak Public Institution and Sports Fishing Club PUČ – Pomer, designed the Medulin Riviera Fishermen Tales project. Through the project, they will present the rich fishing tradition and heritage of our region to schoolchildren, the local population of the Istrian Batana FLAG, and visitors/tourists staying in the area of the Municipality of Medulin, and will thus contribute to the preservation of that heritage. The project includes the printing of 1,000 monographs on the history of fishing in the Municipality of Medulin; the organisation of an outdoor exhibition on the history of fishing, fishing heritage and tradition; two gastronomic events; 18 educational programmes for school children about fishing in the Municipality of Medulin; the filming of two promotional films about fishing; the printing and creation of promotional materials; and project promotion and visibility. The beneficiary of the project is the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Medulin, and the project partners are the Kamenjak Public Institution and the Public Institution and Sports Fishing Club PUČ – Pomer.
